New offer by the AA that could benefit UK E21 owners?

Post by arshad76 »

I've just had a cold call from the AA. In a good mood, so I thought I'd let her say her piece. As it stands it doesn't sound too bad. I thought I'd share it with everyone and see if anyone can say any obvious catches.

An extra £99 (£134 for upto three cars) for the year covers cars over 10 years old for upto 5 breakdowns. If they can't fix it on the road they'll tow it to a Garage of your choice and pay up to £500 in repairs, albeit with a £25 excess each time

So that's a potential £2,500 worth of repairs for £225 anually. Your car will have to have been serviced regularly, although this doesn't necessarily mean from a VAT registered garage. They even mentioned that my renewal is in March, so they'd charge me a pro-rata rate until then of £25. I’d have said yes just to try it out, except my car might be out of action for a few weeks getting some routine work done and perhaps going abroad, so I'll seriously consider it in March.

I know, you’re unlikely to claim it and they make the money up. On the plus it is the AA and I find they tend to be as good as their word. Plus £225 to me isn't a huge amount of money for total piece of mind. I plan to drive my car daily, so for me it makes a lot of sense. Hopefully it can benefit others too. What do you think guys?

I nearly went for a similar policy last year but there were loads of exclusions / provisos. This might be different but make sure you read the small print.

I did think that, especially when they told me twice they were recording the conversation for quality purposes! I've asked them to send it me in writing so that I can have a good read over it before March just to make sure.

Bank with Barclays and they give you free breakdown cover with RAC and mobile phone insurance! It saves me nearly £400 per year!

225! crickey!

go on comparetheconfusedmeerkat.com you can be covered for like 40 quid a year.

mark the problem is that on the free breakdown cover from the bank is that it only covers you to be recovered for 10miles only or an attempted fix at home or road side.

I got brought back to London from Inverness when the 323 Baur I bought mysteriously developed a blown head gasket.

might have to try that one Nas. I'm with Barclays for my credit card, TSB for my current account. I might have to look into that. The main reason this one got me excited was because it covers repairs to cars 10 years and over and it is the AA at the end of the day and at least there patrolman tend to be really helpful. I've got the small print through the post today, so will be giving it a good read through.

Are you sure it's 'free' and not part of an add-on package like Additions which is an extra monthly charge? I've got some experience with this; I used to sell these when I worked for the ba.............rclays.
