they can also be unpredictable on the road, especially on average surfaces, not to mention they skip/squeal all over the place. Plenty of downsides.

try it! personally i still smile when i have to turn a tight corner sencibily. but then i can step it out on a roundabout safe in the knowledge i have complete predictability on what the cars going to do.
you do your first doughnut........ you'll never go back to an lsd with 25% lock up.
plus welding it is free!
It's not really much trouble and effort. I have about two or three hours and $75(the cost of the e36 lsd) invested into this so far. If I was using my existing gears and wasn't changing bearings and seals, I'd be finished.
I should mention that my 323i will be street driven only. I think a welded diff on a street driven daily driver would be a terrible idea. I have no desire to do doughnuts or drift around every turn I take. I also don't want my tires chirping and wearing excessively.

heres a photo of my diff built it myself over a few nights the the actual unit itself is 168mm stuff from an e36 318is

if you look closely at the sides of the casing you can see were i had to grind it to get it to fit.
