passenger door catch

Post by rossco »

my girlfriend went to shut the passenger door of my e21 last night and the door wouldnt shut , it would just push open again. when i pushed the catch on the door up it wouldnt clip into place like it normally would. i eventually lost my temper and slammed it a few times and it closed properly. It seems to of been fine since but im worried it might happen again. could it be the cold weather? is it knackered or just needing a good lube up? any ideas ??

No drama, it just happens every now and then. If it happens again, just twist the latch part by hand and it will click back to the correct position. Slamming the door will just shatter the window.

also may want to check the spring inside the door on the mechanism. if the spring is shot the door will "bounce back" sometimes. i found a replacement spring at a hardware shop for $.97.

What he said. Happened to me for the first time in years the other day, always seems to be the passenger door. Is it something to do with lack of use?
