Skimming brake discs

Post by DrGonzoPOW »

Is there a good DIY way of doing it, or does it need to be done properly at a shop ? Has anyone had it done ??

Are the 323 calipers just the same as 320 ones but with a spaces in the middle ? Just wondering about buying a repair kit from ebays.

From what I saw they won't need skimming, they are certainely not ridged, just need a good clean up as described in your PM ;)

I faced mine on the lathe at work they are made of bloody hard steel but would imagine an 80grit flap pad on the grinder would take any bad bits off to the same effect. yes the pistons in the calipers are the same size so seals will be the same size too only difference is the space between the 323i caliper pistons is wider to accomodate the vented part.

never actually used one normally a wire wheel on the grinder or an air tool
normally this type of thing i find them better than the twisted ones

the flap discs are great for grinding/polishing/cleaning metal
