Re: 316 beige uk
ill go up the strip when the weather gets better.. I'm not planning any more engine mods for a while yet.
bear in mind though my local strip is a bit wank.. its an old airport runway strip rather than a purpose built drag strip.

Re: 316 beige uk
just been out for a drive, defo seems more peppy at 2.5k but I haven't tested the 7k rev limit due to crapping myself driving in the rain. time for a sunday afternoon cuppa I reckon.

Re: 316 beige uk
Very nice Nas, your car has turned into something truly desirable. As mentioned previously, kinda liked your old interior look, but these Recaros actually look a really nice match. Are they retrimmed or factory? The middle stich pattern looks different to mine.

Re: 316 beige uk
I dunno. I think they must have been done some years ago. I am gonna redo them though. Saddle brown sides n cream corderoy middle or if budget allows then front n rear quilted cream leather middle maybe.
I have to still fit the m52b28. Will prolly need to skip the sharknose meet tbh.

Re: 316 beige uk
Do you think you could write a definitive list of the parts required for the conversion please mate? I want to start getting everything together now.
Re: 316 beige uk
i wrote a full list of stuff ive done so far in the last two year of ownership - if I paid labour on all this it would have taken me four years, or prolly never happened.
Chassis
Gaz coilovers (323i front legs/hubs)
Wilwood 4 pots / 323i disks
Quaife ATB LSD - 3.45 (fitted into refurbed stock casing by Kevin Birds / Hartge dealership)
Fully poly bushed
rear camber plates / adjustment bolts
323i rear disk conversion
e21 6 Cyl front subframe
323i rear anti roll bar
Front anti roll bar lowering blocks
e21 power-steering rack
6cyl rev counter / speedo
extra fuel return line
323i fuel pump (going to swap with an e30 pump soon)
Engine swap stuff
Alloy Rad - Modifed version of AH fabrication's mk1 escort forest / millington monster rad.
Silicon hoses
Electric fan kit
e21 323i - engine mounts
e30 engine rubber bushes
e30 coolant temp sensor
e30 starter motor
sachs 323i clutch kit (just about holds up tbh - need a better one)
m50b25 non-vanos engine / loom
e34 m50 oil pan - modified to be shallow with a wing welded on to keep capacity up
Custom oil pickup tube
e36 328i exhaust manifolds - modified
e21 323i gearbox + prop
Madrel bent 304 stainless steel custom exhaust - single back box
sundries - service / sump / manifold gaskets / selection of nuts and bolts / brackets etc / wiring / tools (adds up believe me)
Eprom upgrade - more aggressive timing table and 7k rpm limit
ECU / engine relays housing (due to e34 loom)
m50 manual ps pump + custom power steering lines
Bodywork / tyres / interior
chrome e12 door handles
Genuine e21 recaros (yet to be re-trimmed and fitted)
e30 / e24? series Alpina steering wheel
Single headlamp conversion
debadged bootlid
MTI 3 piece split rims 7.5x15
Toyo T1R's
Genuine sunroof visor / wind-deflector
BBS front spoiler (not fitted)
single head lamp / hella spotlight grill / 323i twin lights
BMW chrome gearnob
Opening rear windows (not fitted yet)
Im going to do an m52b28 swap in a few months -
ill only need to do the following (ive got the manifolds / modified sump, 323i engine mounts etc)
uprated e30 / m20 clutch and pressure plate
e36 M50 single vanos obd1 engine loom. (to avoid the m52 EWS immobiliser system)
m52b28 engine
m50 inlet manifold
m50 rocker cover (obd1 swap)
m3 cams
custom engine map
it will be pretty much a weekend job i think -

Re: 316 beige uk
Out of interest... How come you aren't using the M52 management? From what I've gathered EWS is easy if you get all the bits for it and it's an effective immobiliser if used how it was intended. Also the ecu will match the engine.

Re: 316 beige uk
The OBD1 system doesnt need a speed sensor (im pretty sure the obd2 does need an electrical pulse from the diff / box),
cheaper to program (you can just chip it instead of having the whole thing reprogrammed)
I have all the parts ill need already,
avoid some extra wiring hassle with that EWS stuff
im going to be putting the m50 inlet on and the other stuff with it means that the intake system is less restrictive than the m52 setup.
i hear what your saying though the immobiliser would be good with the key but i have that covered already.
Lots of people do this conversion but no one really says why - ive come to the above conclusions just from reading around basically, so i may be wrong about some of it.
