Oil Leak...Please help

Post by e21rana »

I have an oil leak from the bolt on the oil filter housing. Iv tried every option to try and open it even heat it up but nothing seems to be working. Last option is to weld a socket on but is there anything i could do to solve this problem.

Have you tried penetrating oil? Then use a socket and breaker bar but strike the breaker bar to try and shock or jolt the nut into turning?

Good luck.

Yeah, that looks nicely rounded off! Alot of people will say 'DONT' when it comes to easy out drill bits but ive had alot of sucess using them on motorbike parts where the metals are shit and snap alot. Cant say ive used them on a bolt that size mind you so probably make it your last resort, and if it comes to that then you may want to cut/grind the top of the bolt off first so there's little torque resistance.
The other ways are to either grind the edges flat again and use a smaller socket (always use the hexagonal bits, never the roundy type ones cuz their a swine for rounding bolts). Or maybe grind a groove right down the middle of the bolt and get something like a pry bar in there. Do as Mark says and use a decent penetrating oil and leave it to soak for a few hours (overnight maybe). Getting a blow torch on it doesnt seem like a good option with all that oil around. The bolts shagged either way so just figure the best option and get a replacement.
