Guys
I have given up trying to work out how the PAS pump adjusts on my car, I can't find a way that it has any movement without fouling something, so it's coming off. Sorted the alternator and fanbelt though, so good progress today!
Now I have a manual rack, and I have the bracket bits that go around it. Unfortunately the rack appears to be the one that is supposed to have a damper on it.
Can I assemble and use it without a damper or do I need to get hold of one from somewhere??
Alternatively if anyone has a complete manual steering rack rather than bits of one, I'll buy it.

Steering rack
Re: Steering rack
I literally have a box full of manual steering bits, I should have a damper. I probably have a spare complete rack also. Can check tomorro

Re: Steering rack
I should have just got a complete rack off you when I got the brackety bits. I have the longer linkage for the manual rack, two halves of the bracket with the big rubber bushes to go around the rack, plus rack itself. The rack I have has a split gaiter/end so I'll need to replace that if I am going to use it.
Ideal solution is a complete rack that I can just whizz the car up on the ramp in the workshop, unbolt the PAS stuff and bolt the manual rack in. I will then have useful spares for when something breaks on this car or the slug.
As we discussed when we last met, I found the gearbox/flywheel blanking cover and my original header tank (complete with the mounting screws) just after I gave up and DIY'd mountings for the replacement header tank. Hadn't started cutting out the flywheel cover thing so saved myself a job.
I haven't found anything else I need yet!

I not sure of the difference the damper makes as i have had cars where the damper sized so I binned it, never noticed any difference. I should have a set of the metal brackets and rubbers if you need them and possibly another rack that does not have a damper

Re: Steering rack
I wondered if it'd work OK without the damper. The split rubber on this rack will need replacing anyway so I'll take a complete spare if one is around. I have the brackets/rubbers just the damper that's an issue - or maybe not!

Re: Steering rack
Sorted now, Mr Edd provided a manual rack as a swap for a propshaft.
