Removing door trim for painting

Post by drjim »

Not so much the trim, the side trims have been off my Baur for longer than I can remember. The question is more about the handle/lock.

Looking at the handle it looks to be held on with two philips screws from underneath, that sorts it.

The lock barrel has a black plastic trim around it (actually a slightly faded greyish colour). Is it possible to remove this without dismantling the entire insides of the door? I have a spare door that I could look at, but it's on top of some racking in the workshop and I am not at the workshop anyway!

Anyone know the answer?

Jim

The lock barrel is held in place with a metal clip inside the door; once you remove the rod going to the lock you can (very carefully) prise the clip off with a wide flat blade screwdriver to remove the barrel.

So I'll have to take the door cards off.

I masked around the lock when I did the track car but I'll do this one properly.

Thanks

It's going to be saphirblau like the day it left the factory.

I got the door card off and removed the clip holding the lock barrel in, but how the hell do you disconnect the lock from the rod? Big metal plate in the way that just bent back, but I can't see how to disconnect the barrell. Don't tell me I've got to take the window runners out too???

there should be a forked clip that slides in from the side inside the door that holds the cylinder in the door skin you might need something with a hook on the end to pull the clip towards the hinge side of the door . once this is done pull the barrel out so that only the white plastic part on the back of the cylinder is going through the hole in the door skin for the barrel then you have to twist/turn the barrel till it comes off the connecting rod (which has a cranked end on it) ...edd...

OK sounds straightforwardish, will see if I can get down there to have a go tomorrow, if not it'll be Wednesday.

Sounds like it'll be a bugger to get it back together though - or is there a trick??
