Dash removing and refitting instructions?

Post by petroscf »

Does anyone have any idea about where I might find such instructions?
I have no idea whether Haynes manual may be of any help in that issue...
I would like to remove my dash, and refit it trying to discover the causes of some noises (especially that one coming from behind the central speaker-the cause might be found in the central air duct), and in general "refresh" it a bit...such as cleaning some electrical contacts, tidying up some wires inside etc.(for example other little "age" problems include lighting in central console that stop working and need a slight hit with driver's fingers to restart etc...)

Is it too crazy to be done from a NON EXPERTISED architect?

Because all electricians I ask, just answer me: "Leave it as is..." But I want to do it, and stop those noises!!!!!!

Thank you so much guys. Very helpful...
(still I am a bit scarred to do this alone...I don't know how easily will I dare to start this...I 'll study it thoroughly, however)

Allow yourself plenty of time and a lot of patience; you'll be dealing with hidden screws, fragile fittings etc. And walk away and take a breather if something's not going as it should; it'll be all to easy to break something in those circumstances. Also print and read any guides you have, easier to refer to when it's to hand and also walk the whole procedure through in your head beforehand.
As a guide I actually took my last E21's dashboard out in 2 hours without even referring to a guide, but that was only because I know an E21's interior inside out, so to speak, so for the first-timer, that could easily turn into a full day removing & refitting.
