what bike carbs run best 320/6
right thats it ive had enough of this poxy carb!
the first few seconds on start up (cold engine) it runs fine then starts reving up and down then i find my self having to press the throttle just above 1000 rpm till warm and where the car will idel on its own. the cars is chucking out some serious poisonous smoke and as lumpy as my old dears mash, slinks of fuel. bin advised a webber carb may be the way forward? however whats the deal with running bike carbs?? will they add power stop the smoke and will the car idel? seen lots of youtube vids of people running gsxr 1300 hyabusa carbs. what are your thoughts, whos tried doing this ? what are the pro's &con's. going for mot on sat hpe its warm by the time i get there so theres no smoke!

Weber 38 DGAS is the way for replacement carb, its been covered on here loads if you use the search button. Ive heard of people using zx12r Kawi carbs on the M20 engines but no idea whats involved in that! Most people on here will tell you to go for the injection conversion though. Ive bee roped into it myself recently

i fully converted a 320/6 engine to run motronic 1.3 from an '89 320i e30...... due to a fooked solex making it run like sh1t (as you described). felt massivly more powerful and it ran perfectly, but burnt just a much oil as it did before.... a 325i engine swiftly followed.
im one of those people drgonzo speaks of that will tell you to fit all e30 injection and ignition.... perferably leaving it on a 325i engine and fit that too at the same time!

@oldschool - I have the exact same symptoms, including it idling far too low in town and conking at the lights / coasting to junctions, I've developed a rather impressive heel and toe that Senna would be proud of. The other problem is it running too rich, I've had a cabby pull me over telling me he thought I had an engine fire (just excess fuel out the exhaust).
I'm going to embark on a Weber 38 DGAS replacement at Easter, planning on documenting it if I can. The Solex 4A that is in there was rubbish in '78, and unsurprisingly is rubbish now! I've heard good things about the Weber, including the noise which is something I'm keen on. I don't want my E21 as a commuter, but want it to be a fun car and feel keeping it carburetted would keep some of the fun in it.
Be interested to hear anyone's 'success' stories with the Weber and any tips!!
