get some valve lapping paste and stick that on the spines. work one inside the other a few times. clean it off and grease it.
Still not sure whats what with regards bolt sizes, realoem has pre 78 with 8mm bolts, and 1978 onwards as having 10mm bolts??

I will give it another good clean and try again.

I once bought a clutch driveplate that would not fit on the input shaft on the gearbox . A light touch with a needle file on the splines made it fit perfect in a couple of minutes ...could your problem be similar...
e21 320 (12/1975) 320i/4 (3/77)running gear.
