I am refurbishing my E21 baur top and prior to arranging respray I want to remove the rubber seal from around the boot as there are rust points around where the roof shelf brackets are bolted to the body.
Also need new foam trim that sits under the bonnet at the front of the car. there is lots more but this is a start and my first post so just trying it out!

Okay, so that was not quite the response I needed!
Suppose I did not ask the right questions
What I actually need to know is 1) how to remove the rubber boot seal? and 2) where to get new 'draft' excluder type foam for the front of the bonnet underside?

Any clues?

Ah you mean there were Q's? :D

Trunk seal: pull the old one out carefully, perheps heat up the glue with a hair dryer, remove excess glue and glue again with Bison Tix for instance, make sure it is not possible for water to get in between the seal and the metal or this will eventually cause rust.

Bonnet: you mean the padding foam on the inside/bottom of the bonnet itself? Just get it from your dealer.

Thanks for the reply. there will loads more questions I am sure.
Ref the bonnet foam.
Actually there is a line of foam attached to the engine surround just along the front lip (not attached to the bonnet) Such that when the bonnet closes I imagine a seal is formed. It is loose and perished on one side.
Also need new bonnet and boot badges plus the black and chrome side trim for the drivers door.....

Sorry, thought you were just saying what your plans were.

I didn't realise there was glue on the trunk seal. Mine just came off along with some paint and rust in there. Makes sense to seal it up though as mine was pretty annoying to fix the rust.

I know the seal you mean for the front. I think it is 51231902908, but we've owned 4 e21s (all old "fixer-uppers) and not one of them has had it still installed! You can buy them. Just go to Realoem to check the part number is right then Google it. Good luck and don't forget to post us some pictures.

Originally it is a rubber strip across the front of the engine bay...........not many cars have this rubber stirp anymore for the most obvious reasons...... :o

Thanks for the reference on the bonnet rubber seal. As they are not integral to the operation of the vehicle then I might leave it off and just tidy up the mess that is left over from the old one.
Car in body shop having a respray at the moment so will post some pictures later. Need to get some new BMW emblems for both ends and the small ones on the inner part of the original hubs if anybody has any clues on where to get these from it would be appreciated.
Trying to get it all looking good (never will be concours!) in time for the Sharknose meeting in Apeldorm in June 11th this year. there will still be lots of work to do by then but at least it will look okay.

Would be fun to have you over for the Sharknose Meet as part of that huge traffic jam caused by the UK sharknose convoy :lol:
