New carb + white smoke + oil leak

Post by olly »

On Friday I finally fitted a new Weber 38 DGAS. Having successfully got it on and working (though not necessarily tuned properly), I've noticed a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust and the breather as well as quite a lot of oil dropping from the engine (though I've not found the source yet).

I'm going to get it into a garage ASAP and up on a lift, but wondered if anyone has any thoughts on the white smoke in particular? I'm not sure they're all necessarily related?

Thanks!

It doesn't unfortunately, still blows a lot of smoke when the car is warm. Not sure if it smells of anything in particular - is there something I should look out for?

Is it smoke or steam? Steam would point to a failed head gasket or cracked head maybe? Is it the cam cover vent that has smoke coming from it? Might be an idea to do a compression test? What colour are the plugs when you take them out? Ideally, the electrode should be a tan colour but if they're all black & sooty the mixture is way too rich. If they're oily you have issues like worn bores.

Look under the oil filler cap and in the expansion tank. If water and oil are mixing then you have some issues mate :(

If this started after the carb was fitted I'd check it ain't just overfuelling? How bad is the oil leak?
