CAI '83 320i?

Post by GreaseJunkie »

Hey kids, I have to get in and replace the alternator (hopefully just the regulator or clean up some connections), so I figured it would be a good time to do the battery relocation; now that there will be room, I think a cold air kit would look pretty nice. The guys at K&N have always been cool, so I asked them about it - they don't make one for our E21 320i, but they have some 'universal' filters. Any suggestions? From all the research I've done I've found: A) Don't bother with a CAI b/c the stock air box is fine and 2) No one makes one specifically for this car.

So... should I bother building one? If so, any one out there do it before?

Thanks!

GJ

I have a CAI in my 83 with the battery relocated to trunk. I got it this way from the OP. Looks like all positive wires going to the battery/alternator all get bolted on to the starter, with one battery cable going to the trunk.

What kind of CAI is it? Do you have a pic?

Thanks for the info RE the battery relocation. I'm pretty sure that's how I'm going to do it too - I am more curious about the CAI and who makes it.

Thanks!
