Not let down, it was never really arranged properly.

I'm going to get the fabric ordered so I can crack on with the rebuild, your speciality is the oily bits which can be finished off once I have put the thing back together. I'll update the thread once the parts have all arrived and reschedule a meet. The oily bit fettling shouldn't take too long, not much left to do.

did you take advantage of the time at home to watch the royal wedding? :wtf

Thank God someone invented cars, workshops and the internet. Almost impossible to avoid the wedding nonsense today otherwise.

Tomorrow I am going to a wedding, joy!

Making significant progress now.

Bumpers/grilles on, managed to scratch the front wings with the bumper so will be touched up when Shaun buffs it all. Not sure I like the reflective rear panel - may swap for the black one off the slug. Need number plate lights off the slug - slug won't be MOT'd again so no need. Doors back on, carpet in, have roll of fabric and glue to do the roof tomorrow. Windscreen and bits should arrive tomorrow, windscreen guy on stanby to come and help fit it.

Tried to get at the reverse light switch, but can only just get my hand in - how the feck do you connect it up?? I have a new switch and was thinking of connecting wires to that and fitting it, but I can't get at the existing one to loosen it - do I need a stubby spanner???

Will stick the bonnet on tomorrow, hopefully be almost done by teatime. Only engine bits are to connect up the fuel pipes, connect the air filter, suss out the ICV, stick water/oil/fuel in and see if it works!

No rear panel at all gets my vote Jim. The red plastic one's look naff but that's just my personal opinion. Looking good though .

The light gaskets have rubber bits that stick out into the centre section so it needs something on there. Red one would look good on the track, so I think I'll pull the black panel off tomorrow morning while I am nicking number plate lights from the slug.

The black stuff on the floor in some of the pics is dinitrol that is now filling the sills. Hopefully the rust will be held at bay for a long time!

Have texted Rob to see if he has a passenger side rear light lens - he brought me a set of rear lights, but the bloody lens has now vanished.

I think this one has been off the road since 2004, I have had it since 2008, managed to start work on it in late 2009. It's close enough now that it can be on the road again in a few weeks.

Can't wait!

Minimal visible progress today and no pics as I forgot the camera.

Fitted the number plate lights off the slug. Fitted the bonnet hook things, then as there was nobody to help me fit the bonnet I got on with fitting the viscous fan, air filter and fuel filter/pipes. Stuck the car back up in the air and drained the old oil from gearbox and diff. Replaced diff oil easily but had to go and buy a pressure sprayer and some plastic tubing to get oil into the gearbox. I put engine oil in a while ago but I've got 5L of oil waiting to go in afer a few hundred miles as it'll be full of crud by then.

reverse switch was a right pig to get at, ended up propping box up on transmission jack, removing exhaust clamps and gearbox mount to drop it a bit more, removing clutch cylinder and buying some stubby spanners. Managed to get the old one out - reason i couldn't feel the connectors was that they were bashed flat. Soldered wires to my new switch and then spent what felt like an hour persuading it in. Need to check the wiring diagram for the car to suss out which wires in the auto trans multi plug do the reverse light. I also wonder if there's a start inhibitor realy in there too??

Windscreen and parts hadn't arrived by the time I left, need to summon courage to do the fabric on the roof over the weekend, but also have to get the slug ready for Cadwell, live family life, go to the gym, and sadly go to work! Then it's the cup final next Saturday, and fortunately I have a ticket!

Mechanically I just need to torque up the rear hubs and turn the key to see if it works, might have time over the weekend.

The wires for the reverse light switch are coloured blue with a white line and green with a white line...you should have a small black plug separate to the one for the auto shifter with these coloured wires under the base of the centre console....edd...

Thanks mate - will look at the wires over the weekend - I don't have a centre console in the car so easy to find wires!

Well a month has gone by since I last updated this, been busy with work and family but the car is now so close to being done that it has to happen very soon!

Posted a few pics in the what did you do to your e21 today thread, I won't link to them again. Suffice to say that the roof is done, glass in, trim and door cards fitted. My spare passenger door was from a LHD car, so after getting the door card on today I realised the door handle was in the wrong place - driver and passenger side have different handles, different position for the handle and different operating rods. So I had to dismantle the door again. Once I'd sorted that I realised the dooro opening restrictor thing was missing from the door so I had to get the one off the old door, remove the doorcard from the new door again and fit it. When it all went together I couldn't get one of the screws in the handle to bite on anything - I fear I may bhave to take it all apart again tomorrow. Slight bonus in that Shaun is stripping a micra to be a new banger racer for his daughter, it had lots of door card clips in it and they fit the E21!

Fitted the new washer bottle in the boot with wiring/pipe running through the car neatly wrapped in loom tape, then managed to get back seats in with a huge amount of wrestling, also got bonnet straight and locking down.

I grabbed some pics with my phone today, but it's charging up at the mo so I'll put the pics up later. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the seats and centre console in, then can try the engine. Unfortunately I know that whilst fitting the rear seats I fell over inside3 the car and sat on the centre console which made a loud cracking noise. Half my day will be spent repairing it!
