Baur hood pics / reassembly help.

Post by drjim »

Guys

Has anyone got some close up pics of Baur hoods? The bit I am specifically in need of help figuring out is at the back where it screws to the car. There's a gap between the bottom of the hood and the car body which looks like it is supposed to have something filling it - maybe a rubber strip or something.

Also there's a strap which pulls the frame into the right position when the hood is up, has two screws and a little metal bracket to hold it down, but where do they screw in to?

Ta

Jim

Thanks chaps.

Looks like one of the rubber bits I have goes under the back of the hood. Will have to sift through them and find one that fits!

I'll give that guy a ring Arshad, but am rather busy for the next week or so.

Myy hood is away being repaired, so can't help with pics of that.

But can send you one of the strip if needed.

Should be obvious though TBH...approx same length as across rear...about 2" wide, with a lip that fits under the back of the boot lid.

Still available from BMW if needed...approx £70.

I found the rubber strip. Sides look as though something is missing - I can see straight into the C-pillar area vent, there's an upward kink in the hood which makes me think it's meant to be like that. A pic of that area would be handy so I can check I'm not missing anything else!

OK chaps, another question.

There are two straps that pull the frame up properly when you close the hood. Where do they screw down to??

hey drjim, there are 7 screws in each strap. Three at the top bar, two on the second bar, and the last two are screwed into the body near the wing side of the boot lid on each side. should be two little holes between the parcel shelf and the seal you just found. :D

oh yeah, and there is a metal bar about 1/4 in wide by 2 in long (or there abouts) that go on top of the strap and hold the strap to the body. these were hand made so make sure they are the right side up so the metal bar doesn't rub on the roof when it is shut. it might stick out to one side if its reversed, if that makes sense to ya

Great, I start tomorrow by unscrewing the roof again! The metal bars will be in the pile of parts - I think I'll make a new one.

Thanks for replying

Sorted it today, chopped a bit of sheet to make a new clampy bit for one side. Hood now works fine, doesn't quite seal at the sides but I think it's because the rubber on the targa panel sticks out a bit too far and I've not quite fully fitted the slot thing at the front of the targa so it's not in the right place. Some fiddling over the weekend is in order.
