I had the car on loan back in 2006 when I cleaned it up for it's appearnce in Total BMW.
It was pretty solid then with just the odd small rust scab here & there (see the pics below). The gear change was in desperate need of new bushes & the engine needed a good service as it could cut out at low revs (weber carb). Brakes & suspension were ok, interior (cream fluffy fabric) was a bit worn, especially drivers seat & door card. Rear hood was very good. Headlights need replacing (sand blasted glass).
However, another friend borrowed it & stuffed it on a roundabout (FWD monkey!) There was no body damage but one of the back wheels was smashed. There's probably damage to the trailing arm &/or subframe (diff ? driveshaft?).
We put some 14" BBS wheels off an E30 on to move into storage where it's been sitting since 2007/8.
There is a spares car available (320/6 auto) so we can rob the subframe/trailing arm etc. as required.
So, some questions:
- Will the E30 wheels be ok? (I know they're the wrong offset)
- I believe E30 front sports seats fit with modification - what's the mod?
- Motronic ('87+) M20B25 - I know it fits but how hard a job is it?
- Are 323 brakes worth having for normal road use (depending on the answer to the previous question)
- Ditto the 323 suspension.
What's it likely to be worth when it's put back on the road? ie. the purchase price/repair cost equation
Depending on costs I would be willing to do more work (respray, uprate suspension/brakes/engine - the latter more for reliability)
