Dash alternatives

Post by e21-Mark »

The dash in my track car has been well and truly butchered in order to fit the front cage. As a result I was thinking of taking it out all together and going for something like this....

Image

Excuse the poor quality picture.

Anyway, I was thinking of a bar that runs across beneath the windscreen and joins the cage to act as a brace. An alloy centre panel for switchgear and a pod behind the steering wheel for rev counter and speedo. If I were minted I'd go for a STACK analogue rev counter and digital display but I wondered if anyone had seen KOSO RX2 or ACEWELL digital displays?

Plan to get the console here

Simple bit of Alloy bolted to the roll cage bars should be fine. I kept the original dash pod but now the fuel gauge doesn't work anyway I'm thinking of getting rid of it and fitting some aftermarket instruments.

Thanks Jim. That's much better than a butchered dash. I would like a quick-release wheel too as it would make getting in & out far easier with my dodgy leg.

Spent yesterday going through old magazines, especially the classifieds.

Rang and left messages about 2 very well priced e30 M3's and a Stack ST8100 digital dash.

Last night, I realized the reason for the good prices was that the magazine with the M3's was 9 years old and the one with the dash, 2 years old. Twat!

Seems it wasn't all in vain though, as the dash is still in the guys loft and so I just got it for the same price as a couple of gauges. I just need to find out of fitting a speed sensor will still be MOT legal? If not, I guess I could re-fit the OE one for MOT day?

I'm going to have a go at making my own alloy dash panel for the switches and hide the exposed wiring as best I can.

Saw this photo from a works car today. I'm going to try and go for a similar set-up once I remove the dash.

Stack arrived today although I'm not going to attempt to do the wiring loom myself.

Just need to get door bars and cross brace from safety devices and then we can rip the old dash out.

£56 for that book!! It's not as if the pictures were even original. I've seen 99% of them before. Best thing about this is I can switch to digital speedo come MOT time.

and took a couple for myself..

The Stack will look nice in there and i'm sure it does a bit more than just tell you how fast your going...

Here's a slightly different dash from one of the cars i saw on Monday at Brands

Yeah, it does all the usual stuff like oil pressure, oil & water temp etc. Has a G meter and obviously lap times etc for when I go to Sainsbury's.
