Overdriven to dog-leg
I'm swapping the overdriven gearbox in my track-car for a dog-leg close ratio but just wanted to check if they are a straight swap with the same prop etc?
Re: Overdriven to dog-leg
lol i guess we know who bought the dog leg then...how much for your 4spd over drive?
Re: Overdriven to dog-leg
oh and I would think the drive shafts are the same...not much point in manufacturing a special box and drive shaft....not cost effective
Re: Overdriven to dog-leg
Nope, the drive shafts have different length. And they can be connected to the diff and gearbox with either 3 or 4 bolts.

Re: Overdriven to dog-leg
There are 2 lengths around for the doglegs, one requiring a different prop length, one that's just as long as the overdrive box. Check before you buy

Re: Overdriven to dog-leg
Sold one example dogleg that was exactly the same length as my OD's last year that's why I know for sure...

No doubts! I know a lot about e21s but I dont know everything. one of the draw backs from only restoring them not modifying them. I havent had the oppertunity to get a hold of the really nice models that europe saw so alpinas and the euro sport models are totaly out of my knowledge base and I admit it.
speaking of rare models (to me) is that e21 touring that is shown in the pics on the home page a real model or something somebody made very well?

Re: Overdriven to dog-leg
Sadly, if you look closely the touring is nothing more than a bad photoshop. But did you know about the early touring prototypes? There should be one or two survivors of these cars, but ultimately BMW decided to go for a different design, the one we still love today! Anyway here's a link to only a little bit of info:

oh thats a shame. I thought it was real and was going to look for one. That would be an e21 I would have to have. ty for the link I ll give it a look
Re: Overdriven to dog-leg
hmmm...not as keen on the prototype..somehow that look worked on the 2002 but not on the e21 in my opinion. still...would be nice to have a rare model like that. Maybe some day Ill win the lottery and Ill get the machine shop I dream of and make the touring. Ahh to dreamJeroen wrote:Sadly, if you look closely the touring is nothing more than a bad photoshop.
