E30s get my vote, my old 318is was unstoppable and not that slow either. I have up until recently and will continue to use in the near future an ex Murran 320i touring with a 2.5 fitted, drifts mint.

My cars are self funded through sales and breaking of BMWs, there is money to be made but it's not an awful amount! A lot depends on being in the right place at the right time and getting there before anyone else! You could give it ago but I wouldn't spend lots of money on cars without a guaranteed return... that's when I break them!

I have been pondering something else to do once the Baur is finished. I'm thinking something everyone expects to be shit - like an e36 316i - then turbo it but make sure it sounds the same, decent suspension but nothing visible then take it to a trackday and piss the M3's off.

Cheap MX5 and throw a V8 in it?

Talking V8's, I was thinking an e23 might be nice with a 4 litre one and a manual box?

A raty Turbo mk1 mx5 giant killer, even most petrol heads I know think mx5's are a hairdresser car (okay the think e36's are old), and one of the track day local has a m3 powered 316 touring.

M10's are going for a lot cheaper. Are they decent enough to tune up ? Never had much experience with em so far

Usually, the people that dismiss MX5's as hairdressers cars are people who haven't ever driven one. You don't hear people say that about the Lotus Elan and it was those that inspired the MX5. The last one we had was a 1.8 twin-cam which also has an LSD as standard. It would sit all day @ 90 and through the lanes in was damn quick when you wanted it to be. Roundabouts were great fun too.

BMW M10's? They love being tuned. Bigger valve head, lumpy cam & twin 40's or 45's. Personally, I'd be inclined to junk it in favour of an M42 but I might be biased?

What engines fit into an M10 chassis without much fuss ? Im guessing to put a 6 pot into a 4 pot car would require swapping the front sub frame ?

M42 if you want to stick with BMW. They're cheap enough too!

140 - 145 although you can get a bit more with a chip. My track car is supposed to have nearer 160 but I think that was on the optimistic fritz bits dyno. If you strip it to be as light as possible though, 140 is enough to have good fun and keeps the engine pretty bullet proof. They love being revved and sound awesome too!

Listen here and you'll get an idea of just how well it goes & sounds.
