Bosch Platinum spark plugs

Post by Rushfan1 »

I saw on another BMW E21 forum a post regarding spark plugs and there was a comment to never use Bosch Platinum spark plugs in an E21. My last 3 sets have been Bosch platinum spark plugs and I couldn't be happier; they are the best plugs I have ever used.

Any downside in using the Bosch platinum plugs?

Are those the four prong plug? I think they are and the reason to avoid them is the temp rating for the plug. They tend to burn hotter than the normal ones and any aluminum head can crack due to the heat. It isnt something that always happens but has been known to happen in the past. I havent seen an e21 head split yet, but I have seen several early VWs with the problem. It has been a while since I have heard about this happening. not sure if maybe they have changed the plug somehow or people just stopped doing it.

It is not the 4 pronger, just the regular type of plug.

What engine do you have? I know a lot of the 02 guys swear by Bosch plugs and the guys with tuned engines opt for the 4 electrode jobbies.

I've got the stock 1.8 L and am using the single electrode Bosch Platinums.

That's an M10 engine. You'll be fine with the plugs you're using.

yeah thats where they get used. most track guys use them for a better burn on the fuel but they arent worried about the plugs cracking the head since most of the other mods are pushing the engine anyway. :rev
