Wiring front speakers and moving the back ones..

Post by Reck »

Afternoon!

Right, I wanna put a pair of 6x4's in the front holes, but the 316 only came with the backs wired in. What's the best way of routing the cable? It looks pretty tight back there, can I just poke it through from behind the glovebox and waggle it about till I see it? (in before the comments on that one btw :))

Also, I didn't realise quite how shallow those front holes are so I'm gonna move the low profile JBL's I have in the back to the front, and put these deeper ones in the back shelf but I think they still might not fit. If I make another back shelf, is it possible to move the holes about to give more clearance? Or is that torsion bar thing for the boot still gonna be in the way?

Thanks :)

the fronts speakers wires run through a gap in the body just behind the brace for the dash and come out the hole for the speaker in all the ones I have seen. The rear deck is a big problem, always has been. You can get some good bass out of the trunk when you manage it. I have 520wrms 6x9 vibe in the baur and they just miss the spring for the bootlid and you have to take them out to change the rear shocks...hehe. No idea how you would cut the rear deck with the roof on like in a hard top though.

or

you can buy some speaker rings to give you some room - if the magnet can fit in the recess for the standard speaker your sorted

i was going to work something out for the front foot well so I can use smoe 6.5" focal speakers i have - I reckon theres just enough room at the bottom corner on the drivers side where your foot is (my foam block as been removed when i had the new carpet put in) and low enough on the passenger side to miss the glove box.

Those freestanding ones are pretty sweet, just an easy 20 quid for the Manchester crackheads though I reckon.

None of those speaker rings are the right shape from what I can see. Could you maybe suspend them using some long bolts and some washers? Or would that sound gash cause they're not sat in the hole properly?

Ahh right so only the magnet needs to fit in the holes. Clever but I've already bought these stupid 6x4's now. :\
