Did the Retro Rides track evening at Brands yesterday and there were some lovely cars there.

I had swapped the shiny Rotas for Melber of the same size, but correct offset, fitted with Silverstone RR tyres. Also fitted Wilwood calipers & EBC yellow stuff pads.

The brakes were so much better! It took a couple of laps to get used to just how much better they were and to stop scrubbing off too much speed. Combined with the tyres, which are super sticky, I was able to brake way later. I was also able to carry far more speed through the corners, especially going onto the pit straight where i was doing nearly 10mph more by the braking point and being much faster through Paddock Hill bend. My lap times (not that I was timing the laps cos you're not allowed ;) ) were 5 seconds a lap quicker with a PB of 1.03.

It was a really good event and good to see a couple of e21's out on track as Dave @ E21 Revival was also there.

I've got a few days to check things over before the Eagle Sprint at Goodwood on Saturday.

It was bloody hot at Brands yesterday but the tyres seemed to cope OK. Incredibly sticky and more like a cut slick than the Toyo 888's and Yokohamas I'd used before.

Usually the 888's aren't too bad either. What tyres are you using now then? Then? Then? Now?

Good fun at Goodwood yesterday. A really good mix of cars although the only other BMW was an e46 M3 CSL.

I'm doing a sprint event at Brands Hatch on the 10th September so started getting the car checked and ready.

The rear offside top mount has failed but rather than just replace it, we are changing the way the Gaz coilovers fit so that the old rubber top mounts can be done away with all together. I'll post some pics once they've finished fitting them.

I also thought I would crack on with some of the minor jobs like replacing the pedals, shielding the air filter and fitting a cold air feed. I have also fitted a standard ECU chip as the one in the car when I bought it, came via Fritz Bits and is useless. In fact, I imagine it would eventually ruin any engine due to the massive over-fueling and flat spots. Anyway, I did the best thing I could think of and stamped on it and kicked it down the drain.

eBay came up trumps and I landed myself a Dastek uni chip - new & unused and all for £40. I was planning to do a MAF conversion using a stock e36 328i item. I don't know just how viable that is though? Hopefully one of you guys can enlighten / advise me?

you mean like a miller maf conversion? think the miller maf thing has a little ecu to turn the maf signal into a signal the engine ecu understands(maf to afm signal converter?)?

Yeah, but instead of the Miller MAF you use the e36 item?
