Post by peteferg »

hi all, while the baur resto is under way, and the front panel is off I thought it best to fit a fresh cambelt. ive looked about and there seems to be a few people offerng different belt specs?? 110,111,126 teeth variants. does anyne know what the correct answer is? (1980 320/6)

Remove it and count! 127 with rounded profile is most common. Replace tensioner roller as well and consider a new water pump too when you're there...

Agree but since there are a few versions around... However, if you remove the top timing belt cover you can already see if you have the square or rounded profile. Square is 110-111 and rounded 126-127 and I believe nowadays you can only get 111 and 127 which is fine.

Glad I didn't offer to eat my hat since I've seen a couple of cars with the 110-111 version which indicates the car didn't have proper dealer maintenance in its first years having missed a modification to the later version, the later belt runs smoother but I haven't seen cases of the 110-111 versions failing so I don't think owners take a big risk if they do not convert.
