316 to 318

Post by NineEleven »

Hi i'm an e30 316 owner. I just found out that the e21 318 had 98 horsepower instead of 90 like the 316. What's the differance and can i tune my 316 to the same hp? I have af e30 facelift model with the pierburg 2be carb. I think the 2b4 is stock on the e21 m10

can anyone help me? thnx. Other tuning tips are welcome to

Sounds like a lot of work (engine swap) for a few extra horses, if there are any of those left anyway. And what are yoy talking about? 1.6 carb? 1.8 carb? 1.8 fi? Adding fi is even more work and you better change to something more useful with more gains. If you do the work of an upgrade, do it good and really gain something. Go the M42 route, enough info on here just use the search option.

remove your pansy pooburg carb and get a webber carb instead. this will give you the extra power you require. engines are very simaler as they are both small port heads. if you can get hold of an e30 318 m10 injection head or a old 2002 head then you get much bigger valves and then you can start playing around after that.

If your really after power and your car is LHD then i have a complete turbo kit for sale :) although you will need to do a lot of work

i also have an e30 m10b18 and i'm not talking about engine swaps. I'dd like to know what the difference is between my engine and the engine in the 98hp 318 e21. If it's something small it's nice to tune my engine to 98hp without many effort. i'll keep the 2002 head in mind but my engine isn't in very good condition at the moment. It spils oil trough the crankcase ventilationfilter. is that bad? I'dd love to tune an m10 engine but that's something for the future.

well physically i know the e21 blocks are stronger than the e30 blocks, but wiegh a little but more. the 02 blocks are again stronger.
i imagine the carb is the biggest difference between the two. they prob detuned the e30 engine to pretend it did more mpg
