Air con?

Post by pjksutherland »

Thinking of shipping my car to Canada next year when we move - it's a bit warmer there in the summer than in good old blighty and I've been wondering if retro fitting air con is an option?

Has anybody done this or know anything about doing it

The blue 323 that was at Gaydon this year, has air con. You should be able to retro fit it once you get out there. I imagine it'll be a whole lot easier to find the parts in the states too.

My 320 has an aftermarket airconditioning from autoclima. The car is from Italy imported. They even made the centerconsole in the car almost the same then the original when it is installed.

In the States an outfit called Vintage Air does a lot of A/C conversions

whilst they mainly do Camaros and similar musclecars they do have a generic system see:

Thanks for the info gents. I'm going to look into the options - I wouldn't have bothered even thinking about it, but the leather/vinyl recaros I've fitted do make it a bit sticky in the car on a hot day! I guess my other option would be to look at finding cloth recaros

I couldn't comment on if this Camaro setup would work or not, but something has just dawned on me. Plenty of E21 owners in the states are either deleting their AC or selling complete conversions from breaking. Personally I'd wait until you got there, bought the various bits and then get someone to plumb it in.

I actually have an E30 aircon setup in my car, still needs work, but you can see some of the stuff here.

Then bought an E21 condenser from an American spec car that was being broke here and had it attached to the front
