Alpina B 2.3?

Hi, I've seen a car over here with 'B 2.3' on the front grille, Alpina decals on the side, Alpina dash, regular bumpers. Is it the basic 323i Alpina? I was wondering what the real differences in spec are, to the standard 323i? Thanks, Enda.

B 2.3 does not exist, if alpina the badge had to be C1 2.3 .. those had 170Bhp but most C1 2.3 seen on the open road are fake ones .. only a handfull where made or B6 2.8 they had 200/218 Bhp but again not alot where made so seeing one is being lucky

Thanks for the reply, I had searched for B 2.3 and found nothing. Here are some pics:


Personally, all the decals would have to go, even the Alpina one at the back.

This looks like a fake one. There are even questions about how many Alpina's were converted to Baur's.

You should find all you ever wanted to know about Genuine Alpina cars including the all so important build numbers from the below website:

(I have selected the part about early E21s (Pre B6 2.8) - many of which were in fact bolt on tuning parts to existing cars.
Thing is that anyone can run off some Deko Stripes and buy an Alpina badge from China and away you go!
I believe that the intrinsic value of these cars is vested in the Alpina Chassis code - in the same way the Gen 1 Camaro Z/28s and SSs (and RS) chassis codes are very important when vital- sorry to go on about Camaros here! - But that is why of the 80 odd genuine B6s around the world the location of the 9 dismantled cars is known.

I do remember persuading a friend of mine to buy a very early Alpina E21 4 cylindar with 2 big carbs- telling him that it would at some stage become valuable when we were serving in Germany in 1979. Of course it never ran right (for which I was to blame!) wonder what happened to it? (It was silver LHD 320)

Thanks for that. Good info indeed, even though I'm not looking for an Alpina in particular. Despite this cars identity crisis, if it was a solid 323i, and the decals were easily removed, I might have my mechanic look at it..

That's right! "I know nothing about BMWs", was enough, but then to follow it up with "dodgy was his middle name", re. the guy who did the restoration.. This time I'll heed the warning signs!!
