Y'all know that I'm a fan of sleepers... I'd remove the optical mods from the outside (well maybe leave the 340i decal on as no one will expect that it stands for 4 litre)... then it'd be one of the most marvellous E21's ever!

hi, just wondering, do those air vents on the sides of the bonnet function, or are they cosmetic?
also, are there any more mods in the pipeline?
cheers

Did you use the engine from a Toyota Soarer or Toyota Celsior?

hadrian
the engine is from a crown but it has a soarer sump (front). These engines can have a front, middle, and rear sump depending on which car they come from.

340i
the vents do allow hot air out, it can be felt parked and whilst cruising. I put them in as the engine bay is so full, and I initially thought they would look good, but if I had my time again I would leave them out, I too do love a sleeper.

xpat75
I used a 130 series Crown front cut.
Stock ecu,
Hand made stainless extractors,
2.5'' stainless exhaust with straight through resonator and magnaflow muffler,
K&N pod,
Castlemain rod shop bell housing,
Supra 5 speed,
5 series BMW 3.45 to 1 LSD,
316mm WRX sti discs up front.
216 HP/ 161 kW @ wheels.
Best time 13.919 @ 99.11 mph/159.5 kph

Let me know if you have any specific questions on the conversion.
Regards
Matt.

Did the air vents come from a Z3?

I was cruising around in my mates V8 today, loved the roar, loved the feel! After seeing this car I am now inspired to do something similar.

Just wondering, who did all the work (yourself or a workshop?) and how much did it cost you in total?

hadrian the vents are a "five louvred vent" from a marine shop.

Jamie6, myself and a mate built the car. It was a $500 unlicenced e21 that needed a fair bit of work itself on top of the conversion. I have spent just over $20,000 AU. Well worth it, I have done 50,000 trouble free very fun km's in it, including one trip from Perth to Sydney to Perth (8000km).
Plus I smoked a $70,000 ford falcon 290kw GTP the other day.

Regards,
Matt.

Windy, I am using e21 323i discs and calipers on the rear.
On the front I am using e21 323i calipers and Subaru WRX STI (2002) rear discs (316mm) that have been drilled to BMW 4 stud. The calipers are mounted outwards using a spacer plate. A small amount of material was removed, using a die grinder, from the inside of the caliper to suit the larger disc diametre. They work well.
Regards,
Matt.
