Fair enough, everyone seems to say new wings so I'll go for that. As long as your man will put an 'old wing' on as he's kind of obsessed with everything old being rusty!

Nowt to add other than what Arshad said really. The wings are a bolt on job and cheap enough when they come up, might aswell replace than mess about. You gonna get it rustproofed when done?
Defo, I'll be on parade once that's sorted! Don't really know about rustproofing? Do you mean the paintwork or chassis or underneath? When I had some welding done earlier this year the guy from the garage sprayed the underneath with some kind of protective stuff for free (nod to Arshad for garage contact )

Cheers Jim, I'll defo bear that in mind. Glad to be doing some work on the old dear. By the by, my clutch is slipping at the mo and I have a spare one and not sure about tackling it on my own. Do you know of anyone who'd fit it for me as any garage I've asked said they won't fit a part that they haven't bought themselves, which makes sense. Any ideas about a good, local, backstreet garage?

I need to do the release bearing on the slug at some stage, also need to do more fettling of the Baur for MOT. I suggest you agree a price with Murran to come over and do the job using my ramp/transmission jack etc one Sunday. Cheaper than any garage, and several jobs lined up for a good days work. In principle I can do a clutch myself, but always have a morbid fear of running out of ability at some stage and being left with a non functional car!

That's kind of my fear at the mo too, and since we no longer have other transport the little trundler is currently our only runabout. Found a garage that would do it in the end, in Ashton-U-Mersey, the guy's alright and does classic car work in his spare time so I have it booked in for next Wednesday. Like the idea of pooling work tho so I'll definitely bear that in mind (and a good way to learn a bit too)

If you do end up doing that on a Sunday can I come down to nosey? I might learn summat..

I got to a guy called Mike Entwistle, he specialises in MG's but has looked after my beemer for the last 18 months. Never had a problem fitting parts I've bought myself (been essential really since some stuff is so hard to get hold of..). He's in Prestwich;

Here are the photos of the bodywork done. Looks great with paint on and I think the guy's pretty good. The only problems I had was getting the car back in time as he ran over by at least a week, my thinking is that he was too busy and didn't get on with it in the 2 weeks he had it originally, so he had it 3 weeks in total which was a stress for me cos I needed the car back for work. Also the rubber seals on the windows broke when he removed them so I've got some white sealant in at the moment which is streaming down the car as it doesn't seem to have set properly and I haven't got around to finding new rubbers yet!
Apart from that whinge I reckon the guy is good and as long as you can pin him down on time, should be alright. I'm definitely happy with the bodywork. Any feedback/opinions please let me know

Thanks for posting these up. Once the new engine is in and MOT passed I'm going to be in touch with this guy. Although I have far from an expert eye I thought the work looked great. Couldn't see the patches. Paint matching wasn't perfect as you pointed out, but I've heard it's incredibly difficult to get a perfect match - a difficulty probably compounded by 30 years of the elements eating away at the factory spray job!

work looks really clean. If it's the same guy (Argentinian) then he did my floors recently. Great job, but was late too. I'm thinking of getting him to finish off a sill and let him keep it over winter while I drive something newer!

That's the fella, definitely a good idea to drop the car in for a longer spell. I'd say he's worth being patient with as the price I thought was not very dear.
