Fitted RPM's glorious top-mounts.

Unburnt fuel igniting in the hot exhaust. You can hear it as the exhaust has no middle silencer and its a straight through rear boxesMobster wrote:Just out of curiosity, why does it pop so much when the revs are dropping.
the borbets look better to me! But then those mini lights are growing on me.

Re: Mark's M52/2.8
I have to run 10mm spacers up front with the Borbet so they're OK for shows but the Minilites are ET13 so perfect fit. I've always liked Minilites and I haven't seen them on another e21 in 15'' either. It was so nice to be able to drive hard and fast today and have no rubbing issues etc. Great fun!

Cheers. I must admit I wish I'd gone for 8J up front too so might have to write to Santa.

Re: Mark's M52/2.8
I'm doing my final sprint of the year on the 22nd at Lydden Circuit down in Kent. I've never been there before although I have heard it's a pretty good circuit. I'm tempted to do the track day they're running on Saturday, so that I can get a bit of practice in.
As I'm only really using the track car on the road, to get to and from the venue, I figure I can suffer the suspension being a bit harder. One of the benefits of coilovers is that springs are cheap so I've got a few sets now that range between 400lbs and 600lbs. They're for the front and I'm keeping the rears softer at between 225lbs and 300lbs. I'm also going to fit the adjustable rear ARB.
I want to double up on the front ARB's but am unsure of the best way to do it? I only have a few basic mechanical skills and am no engineer. What I was thinking was taking a small block of alloy and drilling 2 holes that are the same diameter as the ARB. I could then cut it in half and drill bolt holes for the 2 pieces to then clamp the 2 ARB's together. Does that sound feasible? I'll try and draw a diagram of what I mean and post it here later on.
Over the Winter I plan to try and lose some more weight from the car. The original dash is going to be binned and replaced with a small ally one to house a 5'' rev counter, oil & water gauges and internal fuse panel. I'm also fitting an Omex shift-light. I'm also thinking of fitting poly windows as the original glass is pretty heavy. I also like the idea of that lowering the centre of gravity. I'd also like a glassfibre bootlid. Once that lots done I'm not sure how I could get it any lighter? I don't want to start drilling everything in sight. I've put myself on a diet too and lost half a stone in the past week or so! In fact, I can probably lose more weight that the car can!
I've done the unthinkable and actually fitted the car with twin headlights too! It just didn't look as a County car should with singles. I still need to do some work on the County front spoiler but, to be correct, it needs to go on with a front bumper. Adding a steel girder to the front defeats all the lightening work I'm doing so I'm wondering if glassfibre bumpers exist?

I'm not sure if I prefer singles or twins but it definately looks more authentic now.

Re: Mark's M52/2.8
it doesn't look like the Junior Team E21 that it did before
You are going to LOVE Lydden- like a mini BH Indy circuit
I would defo get that practice in on Sat!
Car prep
far be it for me to tell you what to do (and make your car even quicker than Herman at the Manx!!)- these are the things we have done to Butch in 21 years of racing!
But I would suggest the following:
1 Ditch all the heater stuff and then install an E30 or E21 rear window blower from a Baur or full convertible to act as demister- that's all you need!
see:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260552991994? ... 1438.l2649
2 Fit an accusump where the heater matrix used to be ( I have a spare)- will save your engine
3 fit rear lexan windows
4 If fitting lexan front windows - keep the ability to wind up and down- you can fit aluminium strips to support lexan in winders
5 Strip out all the internal strengthening of your metal boot to lighten as much as possible- without going the G-fibre route
you will be amazed how light you can get it and more and more regs are going steel bodyparts
Camaro has a similar boot stay system on torsion bars- decided to keep as the hassle of not having a bootlid that stays open to refuel etc more than makes up for the weight loss (we have gone back to a stripped out steel bootlid here as well)
6 take out the roof internal strengthening- the x piece
7 Do check out the regs you will be aiming for - they might well insist door trims remaining etc?
8 Finally do tape your race numbers on the road- you don't want to look a novice! Hope you don't mind my mentioning this?
9 Fit a LARGE oil pressure light in red in front of you
10 Don't know how this works on BMWs - but on Butch we have fitted the X piece chassis strengthening from a convertible Camaro being a period item available at the time (on Convertibles)- wonder what extra bits lie under a Baur in the chassis Dept?
Don't want to give away too many TCB Racing secrets.........................
Obviously I can't comment on your setup- no knowledge here!

Re: Mark's M52/2.8
The look I'm after is a car from the BMW County Championship from 1979/80.

Being early cars they just had a single chrome door mirror so I'm on the look out for a pair of early doors or the window frames.
I'm looking into poly windows and Ben / Duracell who also competes in an E21 has already got a set. The heater etc will be coming out but I still want to keep some demisting option.
As for the numbers, I always cover or remove them on the road.
