Seatbelt advice?

Post by arshad76 »

I'm guessing most members are at that stage where their seatbelts fail to retract, either ending up outside or damaging the door pockets.

And I've actually had enough! I like to drive it everyday and the seabelts on old cars in general spoil my the enjoyment of just being able to get in and out quickly.

Anyway rant over, I've found a vendor in the U.K that can provide front replacements for £75 http://www.securon.co.uk/seat_belts_firstframe.htm.

What are you guys thoughts on these? Any experience with the same manufacturer? If I hear a few positives I'm just going to go ahead and order some!

Mine retract alright, it's just the material is so soft it can sometimes fold and get stuck in the top anchor which really pisses me off. £75 sounds alot.. Don't BMW do any?

I've not checked tbh, I remember trying to order some from W+N in 2002 but they were sold it. £75 isn't cheap, but I reckon BMW would charge at least twice more. Hmm

Too late reply here???

Some months ago, I had asked W+N about seatbelts, they seemed to have them...I don't remeber when was this but I think it was not long before this summer...

However, I may have a small (tiny!!!!!) little tip here, mine also piss me off showing their age during retracting. I tried WD40 and it seemed to work, even though I did not open the trim in order to reach the belt...Which might mean that if I removed the trim, then the result might be even better...

What pisses me off the most is that I CAN'T FIND THE TIME TO DO THINGS ON MY CAR !!!

There's a guy in Yeovil selling the belts from an ultra low mileage 316 that are seriously ''as new''. He only wants £20 so might be worth a punt on those?

what causes problems with old belts retracting is the age of the belt itself. the webbing/material is old and much less flexible causes resistance to the reel increased friction on the belt retracting it.

pull the whole belt out and empty a can of dry silicone lube on the belt itself and dance over it with a hair drier. it'll be much better!

I'll try both methods :) Kinda disillusioned with things at the moment. Few more things to do with my car and I'll end up selling it me thinks
