Track control arms- question re bushes

Post by v6toj »

Hi all, i wonder if anyone has advice re this issue i have with my 323. I got a mechanic to look at my car and he advisred that it had bushes missing from the suspension. He ordered and fitted two track control arms to rectify matter. However another mechanic has since inspected the car and advised that the newly fitted track control arms also have bushes missing. Has anyone had a similar prob with track control arms? Just now the suspension has travel in a forward direction due to bushes not being in place. Any advice welcome cheers Jonathan

Does he mean the bush between the TCA and the antiroll bar? If so he might be looking at the gap between the washers and the TCA. I thought there was something missing too but it's supposed to be like that.. See this picture taken by Murran;

Except in this picture Murran has put his own bush in between the washer and TCA to tighten things up - normally they're not there, as on mine and yours.

Or maybe your mechanic means the washers on antiroll bar are missing. In this case if the bush failed, without the washers in place the arm could travel up the rollbar. I don't think the replacement arms come without bushes? Might be best if you could take some photos.

cheers Reck, yeah its the track control arms that apparently need poly bushes fitted. A bit disappointed to find that the part is not fit for purpose when you buy it. If anyone knows where I can buy poly bushes to stiffen up my suspension then please let me know.

i cast the bush above to tighten it up. the original is fine tho, it is how bmw intended it to be.
i simply didnt want the flex, so made the bushes to work with the originals rather than replace the whole bush.
fook buying bushes, buy some....

I did exactly the same as murran did, it works great, I also "recast"" my rear cross member mounts at the same time as i had enough poly left. great stuff!!
