Re downpipe gasket - shouldn't I already have one of these since I'm using the exhaust manifold off my old M10? Also I think we were missing one or two of the bolts off the manifold itself so perhaps it wasn't seating properly?

This is the only one I can find online - http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/BMW_3 ... fe6&000452 - but I'm sure there were only 3 bolts when we reattached?

[edit] http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mod ... g=18&fg=10 RealOEM shows both on the diagram but it was like the top one iirc.

m10 standard pitch copper exhaust nuts (lock nut). preferably 14mm spanner size (like the original type), rather than the more common 17mm ones.

example.....

I am sure I can tweak the dizzy, even get my timing light out. I can also easiweld the radiator - but all in a small time bracket as I have many kitchen/bathroom/house building type tasks. I even had to miss football today.

Engine bay wires soldered, K+N kit fitted, fuel filter mounted in engine bay, ECU mounted in glovebox.. Couldn't get the car on the ramp so getting the downpipe off was a complete nightmare and could only get purchase on two of the three nuts. That'll have to wait till next week.

To do;

- Wrap up wiring with loom tape and generally 'tidy up' the bay.

- Wire up the fuel level sender (I'm absolutely hopeless with electrics.. had a go but failed).

- Install downpipe gasket.

- Dizzy and timing.

- New radiator (NAs might have one, also got an ad up in Wanted).

One thing I did notice after you left yesterday Jim - with ignition on, turning on the headlights or flashing high beams causes the fuel pump to engage briefly?

Strangely enough, the glovebox is one of the few places it stays dry in my car. Although I have relocated my battery to the boot and that's more like a paddling pool come winter!

Well it works. Marks Rad got damaged by the couriers so a swift bit of fettling and epoxy puttying sorted it.

Question is did it reach Middleton safely, and how did the MOT go???
