You won't recognize the way it drives compared to your old m20/2.5. It's not so much the extra 50 brake but more the amount of torque. There's just no comparison. You'll need to watch it in this weather too. Yesterday I went to Goodwood with a few people for the final Pistonheads meet before Christmas. We met at Guilford Cathedral before driving down to Goodwood via some lovely roads. I had a new Alfa ahead and an Audi Titty behind and at one section, where the road opened up and invited some acceleration, I snatched third gear and it still broke traction with ease.

Nas is right. It'll be worth the wait.

Nas just txt me about your post so thought i would pop on.

Matt, the car is driveable although we have yet to test drive it far enough to make sure we have no niggles to resolve. The clutch has stopped us from doing so thus far as we wanted to get this cleared up ASAP for you (and the weather as we've had a bit of snow up here that doesn't help either)

BUT

If you really wanted too you could take it as it does drive but not sure if the rattle gets worse with speed or not. You could always bring it back for us to replace the TO bearing but i'm not sure i like this idea just in case it cause further issues and giving a car back that isn't 100% complete doesn't seem right either and we do have a couple of hours left to spend here and there.

I'm pissed off it's not done and so is Nas, we've spent a lot of time on this car and spent some late nights in freezing conditions to get it to where it is now and pushed every process of the build to ensure you had the car back before Christmas but this one issue has stopped that from happening! The new TO has been ordered and i just hope it turns up quickly but this close to Christmas i can't see it happening but let’s keep our fingers crossed that it turns up before the week is out, that way when i’m back after Christmas we can get it fitted and back to you.

was really pissed off to the point I was even yelling incoherently.

Im not into giving excuses but its not been a simple affair this car. From what started out as an engine transplant ended up being a mission fixing other peoples lack of attention to detail / bodges and general bad state the engine bay was in cosmetically and mechanically. Its only typical we got a bit of bad luck thrown in too.

:) patience my man. The wait will be forgotten when your trying to keep it straight in third!

He might have trouble doing the latter unless Nas is building him a DeLorean. :D

It'll be worth the wait dude. The build looks amazing.

Take it the plastic bit from Recks old gearbox didn't fix it - occurs to me that you will have reassembled with the new plastic bit only to find it still rattled. Incoherent shouting would have been obscene ranting if it had been me!

It helped but didn't fix the release bearing rattle. We have a new one e21 bearing thats a sachs item and we are confident.

well E21 Mark and I had a similar sportman's bet over whether Herman or the TWR both with 335 would be the first on the road

Herman won

But not by much and Herman took far longer than expected to get sorted- guess what all cars do! So you are not alone!
I could go on forever about the rebuilding of Daisy one of my V8 Jeeps- the new propshafts arrived today to suit the 5 speed gbox and type 30 Dana 4wd set-up (replacing the 3 speeder and type 20 Dana)- but that is another forum!

best wishes for Christmas

I'd love an old Jeep, fantastic machines to look at and probably as horrible to drive as my old S3 88" 3.5lt V8. It was great getting to your destination alive and in one piece. I'll have to get another one day.

Car builds do tend to over run, my E21 is still waiting to be finished and my E28 is miles off but I've canceled Christmas and Nas doesn't celebrate it so we'll b back on it at the beginning of next week.
