Steel Hoses

Post by petroscf »

Anyone could suggest whether it makes much of a difference (in brakes feeling) replacing rubber factory hoses by steel reinforced ones ?

And if yes, which ones would you suggest?
I was thinking between the W+N ones (steel braided) and the ones on schmiedmann website ( Product number: SSBL-4-2100 - stainless steel-reinforced blue colored on their photo)

Well, the rubber hoses are the only parts in your braking system that can expand, so if you reinforce those, the feeling in you pedal will be much harder and more direct. Other people should be better able to explain it probably.
I'm getting the ones from http://www.raceperformancemodified.com. I have great experience with them, that's why.

I put braided lines on the e12 and it made a huge difference. Partly because the existing ones were 30 years old, but they do make things much more immediate. Great for track days especially. I had mine custom made by a brake specialist though as you couldn't buy off-the-shelf in Australia then.

Kali xronia!

I installed a kit of Goodridge hoses (set of 6 for 323i) 5 years ago; very good quality, easy fit and (very slightly) improved pedal response.
