323i Resoration Begins

Post by Shaneki55 »

Hey guys, pretty new to this whole forum thing but as i am in love with this pile of rust I thought i would keep you guys posted on the restoration.

We bought this baby 2 years ago with the hope of doing her up but finding the time was impossible. she came with no engine but just a 2.7 block with no pistons etc.so maybe you can all help me on that front... First question will a M20 E30 323i or 325I M20 go straight in with no mods etc??

Here she is from the front,

Her rear end :)

Right, we have started the restoration from the boot moving forward once each section is complete.
The boot is the worst place for rust so we have just cut out the areas where the rust went or was about to go through.

After the holes were cut out etc we started grinding down the whole boot with rust removal discs... and guess what... we uneathered some previous repairs! DOH! bad work!

I took the executive decision not to cut out the previous repair as it is solid. Finish grinding...

More to follow soon but advice on the engine would be great.

Welcome.

Bin old lump.

Cheap & simple option = m20/2.5 out of an e30

Power option = m52/2.8 out of an e36

Just my opinion.

Welcome here, love to see some more Baurs from abroad as they all seem to live in Holland :P

Keep us posted, and I agree with Mark, for straight and simple power go M20B25 or M50B25, unless you want originality...

Move the battery to the boot (to make room for throttle body and air box) and a hole in the bulkhead for the ECU wires to pass through. The ECU usually gets put in the glove box. Half a dozen wires to hook up at the fuse box and Robert's your fathers brother.

Sounds pretty stairght forward, do I need to swap the loom over to the e30 loom and fusebox or keep the original? Can't wait to get this baby running although I suspect the break calipers will need reviving...

Hi welcome
I remember seeing this car for sale not to long ago.
Did you try to sell it before you decided to do the work.
