Not as shiny
Since that photo was taken, a damp road, too much speed & an incompetent driver (not me!) lead to a smashed rear wheel. I gave the owner my spare set of 14" E30 BBS wheels to keep it mobile. There was "a noise from the rear" & it was assumed the diff was damaged. My friend put it in storage while she pondered what to do. She bought a 320 auto as a spares car which also went into storage 40 miles away. That was in 2008.
The plan was for me to buy it when I sold my 635 but the storage facility was lost so the car was taken to my friends local garage. They had a look & said there was nothing wrong with the diff - it was a wheel balance weight catching! A new battery & fuel pipe (mice had eaten the old one) & it scraped through its mot with just a pair of new wings.
Jobs to do:
Sort out a set of wheels
Change the cambelt/tensioner/water pump/ cmshaft oil seal
Thorough service
When I've sold the 635 I can also:
Deal with rust under the screen rubber (yes I know what that means!)
Maybe replace vinyl roof cover while screen is out
Fresh coat of Chestnut Red metallic (might as well do the job properly)
Deal with tatty door trims & front seats (photos will follow for advice)
Replace headlights & bumpers with better ones from the parts car
Sort out sloppy gear change (assume the Z3 mod works for E21's as well as E30's)
Should be good to go until I get around to a M20B25 swap.
Posing with the rest of my fleet - an E36 328 convertible has replaced the two E30's
