Ben I have three questions for you!

1. Where did you get the trumpets from, i've been having a look for some for mine but haven't had much luck.
2. Are the CV joints BMW original, OEM spec or uprated and how much did they cost?
3. How much did you pay for the pair of shafts? I've been speaking to some companies on these and they aren't cheap.

I'm liking your build! very cool indeed

Hi Jacko,

1. ITG Trumpets through Demon tweeks. They are 51mm ID so maybe a bit big for an M52. There are other sizes available.
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorspor ... -spinnings

2. CV's are GKN and will not fit the BMW shafts. ~£82+vat each, plus ~£31+vat for the boots.
I could of gone to GKN Motorsport CV's but they are about ~£200 each!!

3. Shafts are F1 grade material so not cheap ~£270 + vat each

Thanks Ben that’s great, my M52 will become a 3.0ltr at some point anyway but not sure on the length required. Is it true that the longer they are = more bhp and the shorter they are = more torque? I'm measure my Tbs tonight as well - restriction may be the engine bay itself anyway.

How did you calculate the length of yours?

Shafts is about the going rate it would seem, spoke to a few companies on the subject. Group buy would lower the cost though. Are you using a E12 diff?

Yes E12 diff (Welded).

I haven't decided on the final length of my runners yet. It will be adjusted with the length of silicon tube I go for.

General rule of thumb is the shorter the runner the more power higher up the rev range. And the longer the runner the more torque in the midrange.

However that isn't always true for different engines/cams/exhaust/head/valves etc.

We tried 3 different lengths when setting up our D-Type Jag on TB's. Didn't really make that much difference to the curves on that engine. (think it was none, 60mm, 90mm, 120mm). went for the 120mm mainly to match the cars original intake length and for the looks. Its approx 350mm from the head face to the end of the trumpets. So really 60mm trumpets only decreases the overall length by 17%.

I proved that the chiropractor fixed my neck by getting upside down in the footwell of the slug with my head under the pedals, and reconnecting the bias bar etc. Being able to feel your thumb/index finger makes it a lot easier to fiddle about with nuts and bolts! Unfortunately job isn't quite complete, the union that connects the flexi from the reservoir to the cylinder appears to need a longer thread for the Wilwood cylinder I have put in - old cylinder has a turn of thread still visible, Wilwood one goes right to the nut and doesn't feel as though it has properly seated. It's only low pressure feed, but I'd rather be sure it's done properly by getting a longer threaded connector. Sadly my box of brake bits is down at the workshop, so it'll be the weekend before I can get one. MIght manage to sort out the drivers seat on Saturday if I am extremely lucky. Just need Nas to get the engine plan underway...

Strange double post scenario - forum seemed to hang then when I pressed submit. To save you reading the above twice I thought I'd edit this one.

Come on Nas get the engine swap started!

Been having some wiring issues and a bad earth causing me grief. I'm going to ditch the OE fuse box and bullet fuses and fit decent ones instead.

Going back to staggered Minilites & 888's now Spring is here. Just fitting 225/50's on the rear. They look awesome.
