Water leaking through speakers in front foot wells
Water leaking through speakers in front foot wells
Hello guys, not posted for a while
Iv got a problem, when it rains, (pretty hard) water is leaking into the car and trickling out from behind both speakers in the foot wells. Its obviously coming in from the bonnet inlets, i cant see anything from when i open the bonnet.
Has anyone else had this problem?
i dont even know where to start to get into water drainage system behind the dash

Check the drain holes in sills aren't blocked. The drain pipes from the sunroof go down behind/beside the speakers and could be they're filling up in heavy rain, if the holes can't drain quickly enough?

my car doesnt have a sunroof though. i thinks it coming in from the bonnet vents

Do you have some rust around the windscreen maybe. This could be the problem also.

Best thing is to remove seats & carpet. That way you can dry the carpet properly and then either use a hose, or a car wash, to see where water is coming in. I had to do the same thing and I'd never have found the leak from beneath the door card otherwise. Its well worth the effort.p4uke wrote:my car doesnt have a sunroof though. i thinks it coming in from the bonnet vents
Re: Water leaking through speakers in front foot wells
I had .....er.....have (althought not so serious now) with the left side speaker. The water actually damaged my 2x4 Blaupank speaker (bloody shit). the water still leaks through when Elisabeth is PARK in heavy rain. I have not figured out where the bloody water comes from.
All my drainage channels in the front is clear and I don't have a sunroof.............
somebody please give a practical answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Water leaking through speakers in front foot wells
Almost wet myself reading the Wet Wet Wet suggestion
Other possibilities:
- windscreen seal (the one that also causes the glovebox pool)
- lacking rubber o-ring where the wires for the door mirrors enter the A-pillar which is there to both protect the wires and prevent water running down the A pillar from entering
Normally there should not be a open passage between the box for the windscreen wipers (underneath the bonnet vents) and the interior at all and otherwise you'd defo see rust in the box, it may be good to do a thorough check and remove the black cover that's more or less on top of your firewall.

I can't think of much more than a rusty A pillar which requires removal of the front wings. Before you start doing that, check the inside of the wing there (all the way to the back). Still it's weird.

The only way to be certain is to take the seats and carpet out and then use a hose pipe or car wash.
This link is when I did MIB and found water coming under the passenger door.

Car is PARKED (ie not moving) so unlikely it is from under the passanger door. I forgot to add that the water that I discovered is no on the floor board but I actually see it leaking out from the speaker grill mounting. Don't think water can travel upwards.............
