Boot spoiler options

Post by Jacko »

Hi chaps

I don't really want one if i'm honest but the extra down force at high speed would be useful. What options are available and what do they sell for realistically and where is best to look to buy one?

Got a good condition Zender E21 one, solid and may actually do something rather than the foam BMW ones! £100 + post (or maybe able to meet as driving up to Blackpool on Tuesday coming.

this is a good topic!

As far as I know there are various options:
1 Alpina
2 Motorsport
3 Standard early
4 Standard late
5 Zender
6 Foha

what have I left out?
Did Hartge produce their own?
MIB has item 2- Alun Parry's Alpina has no 1
In my book the E21 must have a spoiler not because of downforce- but to enable you to see the boot lid when reversing!

Can i ask that we get some good pics up of all the options? I'd like to see some of the designs available i've never really bothered looking at them before.

I like the duck spoiler (?) is that that it’s called? I don't want a rubber foam thing though i'd want it out of plastic and painted black so may look at reproducing something. Maybe even a very small lip like you see on modern cars rather than a great big massive thing that just helps that little bit...

Wizor have you pics? Wasn't really looking to buy one just yet if i'm honest but worth me having a look at. :)

no, Hartge used the Foha one....
I took the corner at high speed, came in the ditch, drove straight through a garden, flipped over 4 times and then I lost control of my steering-wheel!

I doubt you'll get any downforce but it might help to reduce lift a bit when combined with a front spoiler?

I'm having some fiberglass Motorsport / Ducktail spoilers fabricated and they should be ready within a few weeks. I'll also have fiberglass bootlids.

Anyone interested please PM me.

hope you dont mind it.. :)
Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Great ink there Mihajlo.

Don't forget about the BBS rear spoilers.

They are the items highlighted as 'Motorsport Low' in Mihajlo's link.

great work picturing all those spoilers

mind you Herman's version seems missing- a sort of narrower Alpina version!

nb for the E30 don't forget the last Motorsport version

Or thr Tech 1 spoiler. Jimmi had that fitted to his car and i think it looked really nice. Essentially it is the same as the M535i e28 one but without the grooves

E30 spoiler is narrower than E28 and slightly longer and it has grooves

Thanks for putting the list togther Mihajo, great work. :D

Problem is they are pretty ugly things aren't they!! I think i'll keep it as it is for now as none of the E21 ones i like so will see about making something else fit.
