edit: Which E12 one? (identifying brake master cylinder...)

Post by JTY »

A few years ago I bought Volvo 4 pot calipers from someone right here on the forum (although I can't remember who it was...). In the deal were included e30 rear calipers and a - what I always believed to be a E12 - brake master cylinder. But the brake master cylinder isn't E12. And I have no idea what else it can be of, which is a problem since I want to order a revision kit for it. Can you guys identify it?

What we do know, is that it:
- is Ate
- has a '22' towards the front
- has a '4' towards the rear
- is probably not E12, E30, E21, E28, Volvo, ...

What it looks like:

All help very much appreciated! The other option is buying a new E12 brake master cylinder, I guess...

Many :thnx

Re: HELP needed on identifying brake master cylinder...

Post by JTY »

Okay, leaving the already acquired brake master cylinder route and going the new E12 brake master cylinder way...

So, I can best use a E12 brake master cylinder for the Volvo 4 pot conversion because of the double circuits to the caliper, right?
Which one?

34 31 1 120 832 -> 23,81 mm
34 31 1 120 479 -> 22,20 mm

Thanks in advance for the help.

Cheers

Could be Porsche 944 iirc.

I found OE 323 m/cyl works fine with 4 pots anyway.

Agree, and the feel will even be better on LHD cars since we don't have the sloppy detour between the brake pedal and the master. I believe caliper surface has only increased by 10-15%.

But I have to get a new one anyway. Isn't the E12 the better option in that case? Or feel free to suggest other alternatives (at reasonable cost).

E12 master cylinder is really expensive. That's assuming you can even find one now.

They are €150 at W&N's current sale:http://www.wallothnesch.com/e/ange/fram ... loffer.htm. About €270 at the dealer.
A 323i one is €100 at W&N.

Now that I come to think of it, is the E12 brake master cylinder a straight fit onto the 323i OEM servo?

Ok, it's decided: will go for new E12 brake master cylinder IF it is a straight fit onto the 323i OEM servo. Can anyone confirm, please?

Many thanks!
