Rev counter wiring

Post by tmi »

Hi all
I'm trying to replace the clock in my 1981 316 dash with a rev counter, and I was just wondering if anyone has any idea how to connect the terminals?

They are labeled:

31
1
R

and a separate connecter labeled:

30
58

I think these 2 are for the digital clock, but i'm not sure which is +, and which is -, can i plug in the wires from the analogue clock into them?

From the haynes manual, I am assuming (as no terminal labels on schematic) that 31 is +, 1 is from - terminal on the coil, and R is -earth?

Should the loom already be in place? there are 2 additional plugs taped to the loom, one black wire and the other is a 2 wire connecter which seems
to plug into a connector on the fuel gauge side right at the very top on the new dash panel.

Any help would be really appreciated!! :thnx
