Having followed the wiring diagram from the Haynes manual it appears that if I connect the red and black wires from the ignition switch then the starter motor should operate, is this correct (before I blow anything up!)?
Also could someone tell me the pattern for the gearbox as its not marked on the stick and knowing where reverse is would be handy.
Car in question is a 79 BMW 320/6

Re: Ignition switch wiring
I don't know about the starter to be honest.
Gear pattern:
1st trough 4th or 5th are just where you'd expect them, reverse is to the left of 1st. Give the lever a good (hard) pull to the left, then stick it up.
Atleast that's how it is on my 4-speed 316, can't imagine it to be different on other E21s to be honest.

The starter wire is thick and black.

Can you elaborate on your reply? Effectively how do I "hot wire" the car?nas80 wrote:The starter wire is thick and black.
