I have been working on a m20b25 swap for the last couple of weeks. Right now I am trying to get the engine running.
However it wont even crank over. I have researched multiple sites and threads how I should wire up the c101 connector to my E21 fusebox.
Because I am using an E34 M20 engine I compared the c101 connectors and only found 1 difference in wire colour/location.
When I connect the battery and put the keys in most of the stuff works, like blowers for the heater, brake light, radio, lights.
But when I try to crank it nothing happens. Yesterday when I wired everything I heard it crank, but just barely (it didnt even sound like a full rotation, as if only 2 cilinder made compression stroke ). At first I thought my battery was dead, but it was okay.
I have checked my battery and it is OK.
I have checked the starter motor (it worked when I purchased the blok 4 weeks ago ) and I jumped it.
The engine is earthed via the same wire my old m10b16 was earthed.
The two brown connector that come out of the loom near the coil are earthed.
Now comes the weird part, when I put the keys in the ignition the lights in my dashboard for the battery and oil do not light up. As soon as I touch the accelerator pedal (Literally touch, say it moves 1 mm out of place) both lights get switched on. As far as I know there is no switch associated with the accelerator pedal. When I use the throttle valve in a way that the pedal does not move, the lights do not turn on.
At first I thought it was a throttle valve position sensor? But how come the dash lights do not turn on when I turn the valve by hand, and they do come on when I use the accelerator pedal?
Is there perhaps another + cable? Or do I need to earth more cables?
I have used the search function and read through murran, varden and drgonzopow's threads and they were very usefull in the build. But I can't seem to find a solution for my current problem.

Re: M20B25 Conversion Wiring Help
connect a jump lead from battery earth to engine and try starter, possibly earthing through throttle cable bringing dash lights on

Thanks johne21, I connected the negative lead from the battery to the engine and now it starts to crank!
In the E34 the accelerator cable is attached to the inlet manifold with a rubber ring and has a plastic "thingie" at the throttle valve. It's all metal on my e21 cable, I am gonna try to isolate the cable from the inlet manifold.
It aint starting yet, but now I can look at the next problem, many thanks!
