Anybody out there heard of a TWR 335i??? Info sought!

Hi everyone, I am new to this net forum lark but have joined to hopefully gather info on a friends car which he is trying to restore.
It is a 1982 TWR 335i conversion, done by walkinshaw's outfit when the car was only months old.
Apparently, the car was a 323i, converted when new to Alpina spec, again by walkinshaws, then torn apart only months after that for a full 335 upgrade, at absolutely horrendous expense!
Sadly after a very hard life this car has been aquired as an abandoned race project, missing some parts, stripped and even had some loon strip of all the underseal with a scraper, "to save weight" !!
Can anybody give us any info on these ( or perhaps it was only this??) cars?
I will try to get the registration and some other details.

Dude you know what i reckon, to contact Tom Walkinshaws garage, he deals in jaguars now, from what i remembered. he was sytners equivelent to building the cars over in england as tom himself was a racing driver in the 70`s possibly earlier and all the records of english built alpina are still kept safe within the premesis, from what i was told was that alpina wanted a copy of all cars built with alpina`s parts and information on how many were built but tom didnt that information which is why he turned to jaguar because he lost the deal rights from alpina... to build car engines . this is what i was told. so anything you here about alpina car builders are now normally associated with SYTNER but before sytner was BMW TWR (alpina) for the earlier E21,E12 e.t.c. try contacting them with car details, im sure they can help, otherwise info like that is like looking for needle in a haystack.

This car sounds interesting.

Walkinshaw also did a well-known Holden down here in Australia back in the 1980s. It was called the VL Commodore Walkinshaw. It was well known for its loud (some call it ugly) plastic bodykit, and the model is still liked enough to warrant replicas. The car itself was designed to compete with the e30 M3 in the touring car comp when we still had one down here. These days our 'touring car' comp is merely a big advertisement for GM and Ford (you know, the great Australian cars which come from America :roll: ).

I NEVER knew that this Walkinshaw chap also did BMWs, and now Jaguars. Is he well known?

Hmmm didn't Walkinshaw gut the business closed because of the Aroows F1 team debt problems. I remeber Price Water house cooper placing an ad selling his Jaguar XJ220.

Hi I have the period articles on the car one built and i tried to buy it about year ago but i was a complete car which had been standing for some time the artical has the orginal reg number

But TWR aslo built all of the 320i & 323i county champoinship cars it could be one of those you have

Tom Walkinshaw worked on bimmers, mazda rx7s, jaguars, hondas and holdens to name probably just a few. the car you have was his top of the line 3 series. go out and buy Brooklands Books BMW 3 series gold portfolio (the 6 cylinder one) and theres a great article on your car on page 32-33 (everyone should have this book, its a great read). the engine came in three forms all M30s, most of the parts (if still intact) would be Alpina parts (engine, gearbox and diff).Tom i belive still works a lot, last place i know of him working was for HSV here in australia for the V8 racing series, but he probably works for 5 other firms too. The car you have is a real monster and well worth restoring, there were probably less than 25 made as it was a made to order car. very special. good work, would love to see some photos

further info on walkinshaw. He runs the company that runs holdens HSV specials department and the holden racing team. he also runs the Elfin company which makes holden engined lotus 7 type cars, very modern and technicaly superior 7s, he also raced cars for about a thousand years
