Re: Black Monday MIB RIP
As i said on the phone,Mark,i am genuinely upset about the loss of MIB.Take some time off and i guarantee you'll soon be getting your arse into another E21.I know that i sold mine with a view to going to another marque, but i'm back in the fold.Maybe attacking TWR in a few weeks is an idea,it'd be a shame to put all that work in to then move it on.
RIP MIB..........arguably the worlds most famous E21.

Re: Black Monday MIB RIP
Thanks guys.
Now that a few days have passed I feel a little more optimistic about things. The insurance assessor views MIB tomorrow and once I speak with him I can work out where to go with things next. It really all depends on just how much damage has been done to the chassis & inner wings? Fortunately, the fire brigade were on the scene just as the flames really took hold and it may well be that the shell is not beyond saving? As I say, I'll know more tomorrow.
I do want to save MIB though as a) I know it's rust and rot free, b) I know it's history and c) I have a lot of fond memories attached to it. So fingers crossed.

Re: Black Monday MIB RIP
Its obviously a total loss, however you may be able to buy back the salvage. Now, fire damage cars do tend to go on Cat B and therefore can not be used on the road again, however in some cases they do go on to a Cat C write off. Now with Classic Car policies, it is very difficult to retain the salvage, however i think if you put a big enough fight up, you might get lucky

Re: Black Monday MIB RIP
Chaucer.
Ordinarily a BMW CC valuation would cover it but I doubt me writing my own will cut it this time. The guys at 4StarClassics are doing one though. My declared modifications also have a bearing on the ultimate price.
The fire brigade were on the scene very quickly and it is by no means certain that MIB will be a total loss. I am fortunate that I have access to a couple of rust free shells and a pretty mint black 323 should I want it. Obviously, it'll get modified but I want to do something a bit different this time.

i was completely gutted to see these pictures mark, god knows how you must be feeling mate.. i still remember the trip down to the coast to collect the blue 316 i bought.. i'd never met you before that and it showed me how close this community is, at that time you were still turning mib into what it became..
i will say mark your a top bloke who had a top class car.. you deserve another but a better one this time without a doubt...
Any help you need just let me know..i have a few spare bits and pieces laying around, yours if needed.
A true E21 enthusiast .. once again i hope you stay in the e21 fold.

Chaucer are a good lot and would be open to negotiations if you weren't happy- I know them if that helps latere21-Mark wrote:Chaucer.

Re: Black Monday MIB RIP
The girl I've been speaking with has been very helpful and understanding. The engineer has a couple of independent valuations to help with figures and the next stage is him calling me to discuss. I am hoping it will allow me to put another e21 together that will at least equal MIB.
I have a very different engine choice lined up anyway.
