Bilstein Rear Shocks

Post by adragonr »

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to E21 ownership and having sorted the rust am now looking at the suspension as I live in a town with endless roundabouts. I've just replace the control arm and front ARB bushes with some superflex parts and the difference is night and day.

I am also picking up a set of 323i front struts at the weekend with the intention of modifying them to take the E30 Bilstein B6 shocks and the Rally Design height adjustment kit. I've read up a lot on the forums on this procedure and am fairly comfortable with it although I'll be getting someone else to do the work as I don't weld. If anyone has a suggestion as to a reputable person to do the conversion I'm happy to give them a call?

My question actually relates to the rear shocks. If I fit height adjustable front's I would like to have the same on the rear. I've seen some E21 Bilstein B6 rear's with height adjustment but there appears to be some ambiguity. Are these the correct choice? Or do I need E30 rear shocks instead? If they are height adjustable, how, screw thread I presume?

Assuming I fit the Bilstein rear shock can I fit the rally design springs or do I need custom springs to fit the seat correctly? If I need custom can someone tell me where to get hold of them?

Alternatively do I need to try and fit the rear coilover conversion kit from RallyDesign onto some rear shocks? And if so how?

As you can tell I need a lot of information.

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers

i reckon mk2 golf rear coilovers with the e21 top mounts would work.

Cheers for getting back to me.

Looks like I may be the hunt for some golf coilovers.

I believe it's Mk1 golf rear coilovers that fit, they need slight modification but nothing major. Not sure if Mk1 and Mk2 are the same...?
