Petrol Leak. Oh dear

Yet another thing. Filled my car up £73.00, only to watch it leaking onto the floor. I have a leak from somewhere, to start with it looked like it was coming from above the passenger side tank on a rhd car but then it all collected around a seam where the two halves of the tank join so im not sure where the leak is from. Haven't noticed it before now and happened when i filled the tank up. Now the car is stationary and on my drive it is not leaking at all. Hopefully it's not a new tank as im skint. Could it be a pipe or something? Any ideas guys. Thanks again. Joe

Most likely to be a hose, on the left hand side there's only a breather hose on top, is was leaking on my car as well, see below. Option #2 is rusted seams as you described where the tank halves join, but if I understand you correctly it came from higher up.

Run the tank as empty as possible, jack up the left side. Prepare to have to collect some fuel anyway when you remove the connecting hose between the halves under the metal cover (comes off easily). The tank itself is held by 3 bolts only, before lowering it make sure to remove the breather hose on top: remove cover under right hand side rear seat. There you will find all the hoses. You may want to replace them all but this one is the only one that requires the tank half to be removed, the other half can stay in place to replace all the hoses. Tried to keep things brief, hope its clear though!

Thanks again for your advice. Is the information you have given for a rhd car? The tank on the passengers side (left side) is the one with only the breather hose. Just to be sure. Many thanks

Where does that breather hose run to? The filler neck in the boot? And is there only a breather nozzle on one of the tanks?

Nope that was for a lhd car but I'm pretty sure the setup is identical for rhd cars.

The hose on top connects to a y-tube that connects the breather hoses for both tanks to a larger hose that runs to an expansion tank in the trunk, on top of the RR wheel well. From that tank the hose runs to the filler neck. The y-tube can be reached by removing the cover under the rear seat on the right hand side.
