Motorsport Steering Rack

Post by clownshoemotorsports »

Does anyone know anything about the Motorsport Steering Rack listed as BMW part number 32 11 2 204 358?

I'm planning another E21 Race Car and noticed this part listed on RealOEM. It would be awesome if a quicker ratio factory rack is available!

Thanks,
-bj

3,05 revolution(steering wheel) vs. (standard) 4,05 revolution. Hard to find.

A quicker rack would be nice. I wonder how rare it is. Some Motorsports parts were extremely limited production.

Hen's teeth ring a bell? They're that rare I'm afraid. Jason over here offers gear kits for a quick rack conversion every now and then but these only fit the racks for RHD cars so that doesn't help either :?

I have a contact in France that may be of help but if that's the case it will be $$$$

Anyone else tried a different setup?

Hi
We have had good experience with flaming river set-ups for quick ratio steering (on my Race Camaro) - they might have something for the E21- or could be adapted to fit

http://www.flamingriver.com/index.php/products/c0014

I am happy to share some demon TCBRacing steering secrets via pm if you wish?

As I've poked around the web, I've found mention of Jason and quick ratio racks on other forums. I even saw a post where it was stated that Jason had a LHD manual quick ratio rack. I'd love to talk to him. Do you know what his user is on this forum so I can send him a PM?

Thanks,

Nice suggestion! Do you use the Escort or the E21 tie rods?

I may have one LHD rack but I am not sure and 6 months till I can check, several euro guys have used a flipped over RHD e36 z3 1.8 or e46 compact pas rack these are about 2.5 turns end to end. I would prefer pas with wide front slicks.
