What Relay is this?

Post by Axuise »

i cant find it in my chilton book and downloaded a wire diagram but im a little lost on some of the wires lol. been trying to get my heater blower working and did but a few concerns still, have to drive and get it warmed up and see if it blows hot air. awesome forum i might add as a crap load has been useful already so thank you everyone for still keeping the e21 alive :)

anyhow enough ramble and on to the pic..

i keep hearing clicks when i have the key in ignition and on. not turned over just for electrical components on. sorry if i sound dumb :/ but its my first car ive owned and LOVE this little drifter and love wrenching on cars. BMW is still new to me to work on. and i do as much reading as i can before attacking anything

i have checked relays but this one is slightly different for me. all the clicking makes me think it might be bad or one or two wires is hooked wrong. not sure hence the "might be" dumb questions.

Thanks in Advance :)

That's an odd one! But please give some more info: where is it located, where do the wires run to, what happens (or fails) if you remove it, perhaps a larger pic also of the diagram on it?

Is it next to the wash/wipe relay? Can't see very well in the pic. If the car is an auto I suspect it could be the ignition inhibit relay that stops you starting the engine unless you are in P or N. One of the things Murran and I discovered while working on my Baur.

DOes it click when you switch the ignition on with D selected??

If the relay have 5 conector, maybe it be from driver seatbelt.
Only in California have these relay and a buzzer. That is for California`s laws, you may be notify if you do not connect you seatbelt.
Also a light in the dasboard (passenger side) blink.
